A comfortable office usually has one person who arrives first and leaves last. They make sure desks are wiped down before staff come in, the pantry never runs out of coffee, and the meeting room is ready when a client shows up. In many Indonesian offices, that person is the office boy or office girl, known as the OB/OG.

Small and mid-sized offices that don't yet have a dedicated cleaner, offices with a packed calendar of meetings and client visits, and companies opening a new branch that need support staff from day one.

Helping a new OB/OG get started

Prepare a list of daily and weekly tasks, a toilet-cleaning schedule and the name of their direct supervisor. A new OB/OG will also settle in faster if someone shows them where the cleaning supplies are kept, how to use the coffee machine and the photocopier, and which areas are off-limits without permission, such as the server room or the archive.

Can OB/OG staff work in shifts?
Yes, in line with your office hours. Working hours, breaks and days off are set out in the employment agreement between the company and the worker.
