Household services

Gardener

A gardener for watering, pruning, mowing and keeping the yard clean. He can come on a regular schedule, or live in and help keep an eye on the house.

Gardener trimming plants in a lush home garden

Leave a garden alone for two weeks in the rainy season and the weeds take over. Dry leaves clog the gutters, and mosquitoes breed in any pot holding water. A gardener keeps all of that under control, so your weekends aren't spent pulling weeds.

Regular garden work

  • Watering, fertilizing and pruning each plant properly
  • Mowing the lawn and trimming the edges
  • Sweeping the yard, terrace and carport
  • Clearing leaves out of drains and gutters
  • Repotting, moving pots and caring for orchids
  • Telling you about pests or branches that look risky

He'll water in the morning or late afternoon and adjust feeding and pruning to each type of plant.

Regular visits or live-in

For a medium-sized garden, a gardener who comes two or three times a week is usually enough. If your property has a large yard, sits up in the hills or is often empty while you travel, a live-in gardener can also help look after the house, switch the lights on at night and take in deliveries.

Small things worth agreeing on

Who provides the tools, like the lawn mower, pruning shears and hose? Usually the homeowner. Agree too on whether pesticides can be used and where they're stored, especially if you have small children or pets. Risky jobs such as climbing tall trees are best discussed separately.

Q&A

Can the gardener do other jobs?
Light outdoor work, such as washing the car or cleaning the fish pond, can be included if you agree on it. Mention it at the start so the candidates we offer are a good match.

How much does a gardener earn?
That depends on how often he comes, the size of the garden and whether he lives in. Salary is agreed directly between you and the worker, and we can give you a sense of what's reasonable in your area.

We interview every candidate and check their documents, and you're welcome to meet them in person before deciding. Placement fees and the replacement guarantee are explained in the FAQ. Request a gardener whenever you're ready.
