How to Prepare Before Joining as a Worker Partner
Want to work as a housekeeper, baby sitter, nanny, driver or caregiver? Here are the documents, attitude and preparation worth sorting out from the start.
Working in someone else's home is built on trust. A family wants to know their children, their parents or their home are in the right hands. And you deserve a decent workplace and an employer who respects you.
Good preparation makes the selection process smoother and improves your chances of a placement that suits you. Here's what to get ready.
1. Choose the role that suits you best
Each role has a different focus. A housekeeper looks after the home. Baby sitters and nannies focus on the children. A driver is responsible for everyone's safety on the road. An elderly caregiver helps older people with daily activities, without any medical procedures.
Pick the one that best matches your experience. If you're used to doing housework while looking after children, say so honestly when you sign up. It can count in your favor.
2. Get your documents ready
The documents required depend on the role, but usually include:
- a valid ID card (KTP)
- your family card (Kartu Keluarga, KK)
- a recent passport photo
- a health certificate from a community health center (puskesmas) or clinic
- a police clearance certificate (SKCK), especially for live-in roles, roles caring for children or the elderly, and drivers
- the right driver's license (SIM), for drivers only
- your latest school certificate or any training certificates, if you have them
Make photocopies and keep the originals somewhere safe. Your original documents belong to you, and no one has the right to hold on to them.
3. Prepare for the interview
Many families see attitude as just as important as skills. Arrive on time, dress neatly and answer honestly. If there's a task you haven't mastered yet, just say so, then show that you're willing to learn. That's far better than claiming you can do it and then struggling in your first week.
Think, too, about how you'll answer the questions that almost always come up, such as your previous job, why you left, and what you do when a child is fussy or the work piles up.
Once you start work, small habits build the most trust. Ask before using anything that belongs to the family, keep your phone use to a minimum during working hours, and speak up right away if something gets broken or goes missing. Honesty in small things is often the reason a family keeps a worker on.
4. Take the tests and training seriously
At AgenPembantu.com, applicants go through an interview, a document check and a screening test for their role. The results help determine your Grade (Silver, Gold or Platinum). Take it calmly and answer honestly. The test isn't there to trip you up. It's there to match you with the right job.
Don't skip the pre-placement training either. It covers work ethics and how to communicate with the family you'll be working for.
5. Understand your employment agreement
Before you start work, make sure you understand:
- how much you'll be paid and on what date
- your working hours, breaks and days off
- what's provided, such as a room and meals if you live in
- which duties are your responsibility
Your salary is agreed directly between you and the employer, and the employment agreement is made between the two of you. If anything is unclear, ask before you sign. If problems come up later, our team can help you talk things through.
6. Ask your own questions
An interview works both ways. You also need to get to know your future workplace. Reasonable questions to ask include:
- how many people live in the house, and whether there's a baby, young children or an elderly person
- what the main duties are, and what else might be expected
- the working hours, breaks and days off
- whether there are any pets
- what's provided, such as a room, meals and work equipment
7. Be careful with vague offers
Be wary of anyone who promises a high salary without explaining the job, asks you to hand over your original documents, or won't put anything in writing. If you're not sure, check with our team before deciding.
8. Look after your health
Running a household, carrying a child or helping an elderly person from bed to wheelchair takes strength. Get enough sleep, eat regularly and keep up your personal hygiene so you can work safely.
